The Tanach, with the evidence built in
This is the complete Hebrew Bible in the Jewish Publication Society translation. Wherever a real archaeological find bears on the text, those words are underlined in gold✦. Hover over them or tap them to see the artifact and what it confirms. From there, Next find takes you to the next underline, so you can tour a whole book’s evidence, and the share button turns the verse into an image.
Each chapter lists its finds under its title, and the chapter picker shows how many finds every book and chapter has. The AA button sets the text size, light or dark, and English, Hebrew, or the two together.
Chapter 47
1The word of the LORD that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh conquered Gaza.
2Thus said the LORD:See, waters are rising from the north,They shall become a raging torrent,They shall flood the land and its creatures,The towns and their inhabitants.Men shall cry out,All the inhabitants of the land shall howl,
3At the clatter of the stamping hoofs of his stallions,At the noise of his chariots,The rumbling of their wheels,Fathers shall not look to their childrenOut of sheer helplessness
4Because of the day that is comingFor ravaging all the Philistines,For cutting off every last allyOf Tyre and Sidon. For the LORD will ravage the Philistines,The remnant from the island of Caphtor✦.
5Baldness has come upon Gaza,Ashkelon is destroyed.O remnant of their valley,How long will you gash yourself?
6“O sword of the LORD,When will you be quiet at last?Withdraw into your sheath,Rest and be still!”
7How can it be quietWhen the LORD has given it ordersAgainst Ashkelon and the seacoast,Given it assignment there?
